First Look at the Kitchen and Master Bath Renovation
We just started another great project. The homeowners raised their kids here, but now that they’re grown, the almost-empty nest is getting a re-feathering. One of the couple’s children has flown the coop, the other is entering medical school soon. While they love their three bedroom/two bath ranch home and their neighborhood, it’s time for something new inside with thoughtful and luxurious touches.
The kitchen was dated, the floor plan and flow of the house was choppy, and the bathrooms were tiny.
- The old kitchen was dated and didn't make good use of the available space.
- The existing master bath was so tight, this is as far from the shower as you can get to take a picture (without sitting on the toilet tank).
Almost everyroom in the house is changing. In this first-floor scramble, the kitchen and dining room are trading places, the master bath is expanding into space taken up by the back door and closet, the second bath’s taking space from a closet in the master bedroom. The living room gains built-in book shelves around the fireplace, while the foyer adds a closet.
Today, though, the focus is on the spaces that are changing the most and take the most time to get right, from demolition, to design, to execution.
Once walled off from the rest of the house, the kitchen is opening up to the living and dining rooms.

The shower in the master bath will have a two shower heads — while a handheld shower head is always convenient for anyone, this one will also be used to make bathing the resident German shepherd easier. He's a big boy.
